“San Benito County has a new claim to fame: the world’s leggiest animal.
“No joke. After an 80-year hiatus, a millipede no wider than fishing line was rediscovered in a remote part of the fertile region just southeast of Santa Clara County.
”Called Illacme plenipes, Latin for “plentiful feet,” the little critter has been found nowhere else on the planet. Even though researchers know it’s long, lean and extremely hairy, there is still much to be learned about the millipede that comes closest to having the mythical 1,000 gams.…”
